Stringed instruments (and specifically, the guitar) require tuning frequently, sometimes even during concerts. Tuning requires time, musical expertise and effort. Unlike an acoustic guitar, in an electric guitar the sound is transformed into electrical signals, which can be processed and manipulated. In this project, we aim to explore the possible solutions for automatic digital tuning of the sound of an unturned electronic guitar in real-time, thus eliminating the need for physical tuning. Several different approaches were considered, two of which were implemented in MATLAB. Performance and results of these algorithms were analyzed and compared with each other.
