Laptop Battery Hacking

Abstract
Laptops are equipped with increasingly smart batteries designed to provide responsiveness and extended lifetime. However, such batteries may present a threat to user privacy. Our main goal is to build a "battery spy" as a P.O.C using data from the laptop’s battery, in order to come up with countermeasures to such attack. We use the laptop’s battery voltage and current data and conclude private information about the user – mostly about internet browsing and different apps usage with high precision. Our first approach is changing the battery’s hardware and physically acquiring the voltage and current data. Using the data, with machine learning tools, we conclude about the user’s activity – mainly from the browsing history. The end goal is to acquire data using only firmware and software changes and to infer from them about the user’s activity.
