Binaural Graphic Analyzer

In this work we consider the following problem: Given a binaural audio signal consisting of one source or more, how to determine the source’s direction with respect to the listener?
The solution presented relies on measurement of the internal time difference between the right and left channel, usage of Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTF) and the cross-convolution function.
Given a prior knowledge whether the source is in the front or in the back, RMS error of 8.5 degrees was achieved in azimuth estimation.
Without such prior knowledge, the RMS error is much higher and not satisfying.
